Our History

Hampers of Hope began in October 2011, by founder Cristel Berridge, as a Christmas project collecting non-perishable food items to make Christmas food parcels for local people and families (50% of whom were children) who were struggling to put food on the table. Thanks to the generosity of so many individuals and organisations, hundreds of lives were touched in our local towns and villages and we were able to distribute over 100 food parcels.

The demand for emergency food support locally was so evident that we could not stop after Christmas. This was the start of Hampers of Hope as an independent Christian charity. Over the years we have continued to grow, and in December 2016 we provided 400 Christmas food hampers, a number we expect to increase year on year.

More than just a sticking plaster…

We believe, passionately, that our foodbank must be about much more than applying a sticking plaster to a problem. Lack of food often indicates more fundamental problems and we want to help people address these issues. This led to the development of our Hope Centres. Recipients of food hampers are invited to the Hope centres so we can help to raise them out of poverty, restore their dignity and provide a way out of their crisis.

We now have four Hope Centres across North East Cheshire offering job clubs, life skills courses, breakfast and lunch.
